Off the Boat, Back to Work

Had a great trip from Easter Island to Chile. Painless passage with steady wind and nothing lost but a spinnaker.

As for the store we're blowing out nautical decor up to 50% off. Get your last minute shopping done at Minneys... much better parking than the mall.

Firsthand Experience

It's been a while since any updates but I've got a pretty good excuse. For the past few weeks I've been gearing up to sail from Easter Island to Puerto Montt, Chile aboard the Alaska Eagle. I will be unable to blog for the store while at sea, but we will be making daily log entries from the boat. If you're interested in following us across the Pacific, click here and select "Leg 2."

See you all December 17th!

How do we keep our prices so low?

Ernie does his own roofing!

More Line Than You Could Shake a Stick At

Searching the world over for deals we came upon six tons of brand new, nylon double braided line for anchoring and dock lines.

The anchor lines come on spools ranging from 100 - 300 feet, in 1/2" to 3/4" all with a stainless thimble and a professional splice.

The dock lines come in 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 foot lengths, and 1/2" and 5/8" also with a professional eye splice.

Everything is priced to sell at well under half of the retail price. We've got lots but it's moving fast so come by soon.

TV at Sea

Right now we're selling a SeaTel and TracVision satellite dome for $495 a piece. They retail in the 5-7 grand range so they're quite the steal down here right now. The SeaTel is missing the motor for the vertical axis but can easily be replaced.

McNish Classic Yacht Race

I was lucky enough to get back on Rose of Sharon this weekend for the McNish Classic up in Oxnard. Pretty light winds at the start but it picked up as the afternoon wore on and we were leading the pack until Dennis Connors caught up on his boat Brushfire with the help of his massive 180% 3DL genoa (not purchased from Minneys). It was a great race and we took first place schooner... not bad for having 22 people onboard.

SS Lane Victory

If anyone is looking for a great weekend diversion this summer might I reccommend the SS Lane Victory out of San Pedro. This past weekend some of the boys from the shop took a ride on one of the last if not the only fully operational Victory ships that helped win the second world war. Complete with an aerial attack, tours of the engine room, and a live band this is a really cool way to spend a Saturday.

The ship sails only 5 times a year and will be going out twice in August and twice more in September. Check out their website for more information. SS Lane Victory

Even More Sails

Ever wonder how long it takes to inventory over 2000 sails by pulling each one out of the bin, checking it against a master list, updating changes and putting it back? The answer is quite a while... especially when you're when you're dealing with full batten mains off of a Swan 53. Anyway we've been hard at work updating our main and headsail lists and adding over 100 new sails, so head over to the website sometime this week to see if your sail is there. Updates should post around Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'm off this week and will be driving up the coast for the next 8 days.

It's Always Sunny @ Minney's

Many of you may not know that we rent out items from the store for parties, photoshoots, birthdays etc... but every once in a while Hollywood shows up for something kind of cool. A few months ago I worked with the set designers from the TV show "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." They needed to build a run-down houseboat for one of their episodes and realized they had struck gold when they walked into the store.

They asked if I wanted to come up to the set... either to the houseboat itself for exterior shots or to the Fox Studios lot for where our items were being used. I've been on boats... I wanted to see the set. Here's a couple pictures of our gear and the cast of the show.

The Blog is Back

My sincerest apologies to those of you that have endured three long weeks with no updates from the store. I just got back from Boston for my college graduation, and needless to say blogging was lower on the list than drinking, partying, and a few other "ing's."

Things are heating up at the store as the El Niño storms seem to have let up and we've had some gorgeous days with many more to come. For those of you that don't know, we're less than a month away from our annual swap meet, and this year's promises to be as big as ever. There are still spots available if you're looking to sell.

Lastly Ernie and I got to check out the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA as well as the Boston Yacht Club... pretty neat.

We Buy Used Boat Gear!

When people first walk into Minney's their jaw usually drops and once they get that under control they ask us where we find all of this stuff. Well as you can see from the picture this stuff finds us. We pay cash for boat gear, and just this morning within 1 hour four different people came in with loads of gear. So if you've got things to sell, we're the people to sell to.
